Knit and Natter in support of Tabor House

Since October 2017 a group of Year 6 children from Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic School have been knitting scarves in support of Tabor House - Birmingham’s only permanent night shelter for those experiencing homelessness.

The group of children involved are all members of Our Lady of the Wayside’s Mini-Vinnies group - Mini-Vinnies are the junior section of the St Vincent de Paul Society.

The St Vincent de Paul Society is a charity which aims to tackle poverty in all its forms through the provision of practical assistance to those in need.

The Knit and Natter Project began with Our Lady of the Wayside parishioners visiting school to teach the children how to knit.

Following this, the children undertook weekly visits to a Solihull residential home where they knitted and chatted with residents - had a good old natter!

For many of the residents, this was the first time they had chatted with children for a number of years.

The project ended with a visit to Tabor House itself where the children presented their completed scarves and had the opportunity to see the facilities and to ask questions.

Whilst the guests will not need the scarves at the moment they will be most welcomed during the colder winter days.
